Meet the family

District Distilling Company is home to the ‘uniquely American spirit’. Our passion is to celebrate the American spirit and ingenuity by creating world class spirits in a uniquely American style. From the handpicked Texas junipers in our gins to the Mid-Atlantic rye and barley-based whiskies and vodkas, we use only the highest quality ingredients from across the country. We mash, ferment and distill at our distillery located on U Street in the heart of Washington DC., using traditional and time honored American methods.  The result is a collection of award-winning spirits for all to enjoy.

CORRIDOR VODKA.jpg

CORRIDOR, VODKA

continuously Batching

In a city tasked with tough decisions, we’ve brought grain to glass. Corridor, the full-bodied vodka uniting patrons from every point of view. Distilled from 80% rye and 20% barley using our 42 plate hybrid pot still in the District’s most spirited neighborhood. Corridor is crisp and clean for an experience as smooth as the company it keeps.

BUZZARD RUM.jpg

BUZZARD POINT, Colonial style WHITE RUM

continuously Batching

Named after the spot where the District’s two rivers merge, Buzzard Point. Using panela cane sugar from a farmer’s cooperative in Columbia, we ferment with a yeast strain from the British Isles and finished in a traditional alembic pot still.

BUZZARD POINT, Barrel aged RUM

continuously Batching

We took our award-winning Buzzard Point White Rum and put it in our used Backroom Bourbon barrels. We hid the barrels out of light to oxidize for 20 months. Our wait was rewarded with a beautiful golden rum with incredible notes.

CHECKERBARK.jpg

CHECKERBARK, American dry style GIN

continuously Batching

This an American take on the traditional London Dry Style Gin. While England’s demure gins are often restrained, Checkerbark is a bolder version of the British classic. The inclusion of unique and wild harvested juniper berry delivers a gin with a distinct flavor from a tree with a unique bark (the Checkerbark juniper tree).

WILDJUNE.jpg

WILDJUNE, Western Style Gin

continuously Batching

Using wild-foraged junipers from West Texas Mountains. Molly Cummings, part owner and a Biology Professor at the University of Texas, carefully foraged by hand for the junipers. Unlike most gins worldwide that use the same Juniper species, our WildJune highlights the rugged, Red berry Juniper, that can only be found in America. Our distiller tamed the unusual wild foraged junipers to enrich each of the other botanicals of WildJune.

CHECKERBARK BR.jpg

CHECKERBARK, BARREL RESTED GIN

continuously Batching

We took our award winning Checkerbark American Dry Gin and stowed for 10 months in both new oak and used Bourbon barrels. This is a combination of our strength in resources; Corridor Vodka base, distilled to be Checkerbark Gin, aged in Backroom Bourbon Barrels.

ER GRAPPA.jpg

EMBASSY ROW, GRAPPA

LIMITED BOTTLING : 2018
LAst Bottles

Grappa has evolved into a well-crafted spirit in Italy and around the world. Grappa is distilled using the skins, pulp and seeds of the grapes left after pressing for wine. We've partnered with Boxwood Winery in Middleburg, Virginia to use their cabernet sauvignon grape pomace, so the distilling process is no less than 48 hours after the grapes are pressed to preserve their full aromatic presentation. This is the first spirit launched under the Embassy Row label, with a limited release of 40 cases.

Our bourbon is a celebration of where things come together. We scoured the land for the best tasting bourbon barrels we could find. Our distiller used his personal connections to bring together different sources of bourbon and uniquely blended it inhouse to maintain his high standards of quality and consistency. It wasn’t easy, but in the end, it was worth it.

Inspired by a trip to Executive Chef Justin Bittner's family farm. Head Distiller Matt Strickland combined heaps of Mountain Mint from Alder Meadows in South PA, Chocolate Mint from Northern Neck Farm in Heathsville, Virginia and wildflower honey sourced from Stoner Apiary in McConnellsburg, PA.  The mint was distilled for four months using Corridor Vodka as the base spirit, adding honey as well. This is the second spirit launched under the Embassy Row label, with a limited release of 20 cases.
